This THP is about 25 miles NE of Auburn, CA and about 11 miles NE of Georgetown, CA near the Middle Fork of the American River and the Rubicon River at an elevation of 3,400 to 4,800 feet.  Sierra Pacific Industries is planning a fuel break, commercial thinning and clearcut tractor and cable logging operation in ponderosa pine, sugar pine, white fir, Douglas fir and incense cedar forests.  Ground based equipment is proposed for use in areas designated for cable logging, and the construction of temporary “jump roads” are proposed to access roads and landings under 500 feet in length without pre-designation. 12 road drainage sites are panned for work including rocking, dip construction, ditch cleaning and culvert repair/replacement.  There are 3 northern goshawk territories including; a goshawk territory .25 miles east of CT unit 2, a goshawk territory .25 miles west of CC unit Jen, and a goshawk territory .25 miles east of CT unit 2.  In 2001, a CA red legged frog was spotted within .5 miles of the nearest unit in section 1, and 5 foothill yellow legged frog sightings were reported ranging from .5 miles to 1.5 miles from the THP area.  Sierra blue grass was found in clearcut harvest units Zoe and Jes, Sanborn’s onion was found on both sides of a road accessing CC unit Eli, also within CC unit Eli, and along the southern boundary of unit FBC, and Fresno mat was found on the edge of a road between harvest units Joe and Tom.  There are 8 CA spotted owl nesting territories within 1.3 miles of the THP area.
