The THP area flows into the Mad River which is listed as an impaired watershed for sediment, temperature and turbidity.  There are unstable areas in units A, B, D, G and F (2 shallow rapid landslides along the northern boundary of unit F). 16 road drainage sites are planned for work including rocking, dip construction, ditch cleaning and culvert repair/replacement.  In 2014, a sharp shinned hawk was reported .53 miles west of unit B, in 2011, a Cooper’s hawk was reported 500 feet east of unit F, and 700 feet SE of unit E, and in 1994, a red tree vole was observed in unit E. Golden eagles have been spotted within .5 miles of the THP area, and a western pond turtle was reported .2 miles north of unit B, and .27 miles SW of unit C in large pond areas.  Southern southern torrent salamanders were reported 1,000 feet north of unit F, and foothill yellow legged frogs were reported 4,700 feet NW of unit H.  There are spotted owl nesting territories within .5 miles of units B and C.
