La Tour State Forest to group select log NE of Shingletown, CA.

THP  2-19-044 SHA (Royston THP) La Tour State Forest, 510 acres; 90% group selection, 6% fuel break, 4% rehab logging. Atkins Creek, Beal (MD: T32N R2E Sec 2, 3, 10, 11, 15).  Winter operations, moderate erosion hazard, slopes up to 50%, 16 road drainage work sites, herbicides, chinook watershed, CA spotted owl, goshawk, fisher, pine marten, scattered large trees.  Estimated public comment deadline: 05/12/19. This THP is about 10 miles NE of Shingletown, CA and about 16 miles SW of Burney, CA at an elevation of 4,410 to 5,840 feet.  La Tour State Forest is planning a mostly group selection tractor based logging operation in ponderosa pine, sugar pine, white fir, incense cedar, Douglas fir, Jeffrey pine and red fir forests. Temporary roads, crossings and landings are proposed for use during the winter period.  16 road drainage sites are planned for work including rocking, dip construction, ditch cleaning and culvert repair/replacement.  Pacific fisher sightings have been reported within sections 7 and 22, and pine marten sightings have been reported within sections 7 and 24.  There is a goshawk territory 2.5 miles SE of the THP area, and a CA spotted owl nesting territory is located within 1.3 miles of the THP area.
