Mendocino Redwood Company to log SE of Mendocino, CA near the Lower Albion River

THP 1-19-070 MEN (Calvert Ridge THP) Mendocino Redwood Company, 195 acres; 100% selection logging. Lower Albion River (MD: T16N R16W Sec18, 19, T16N R17W Sec 13, 14, 24).  Winter operations, moderate erosion hazard, steep slopes up to 75%, landslide terrain, impaired 303.d watershed, 9 road drainage work sites, coho watershed, red tree vole, coastal tailed frog, southern torrent salamander, scattered large trees.  Estimated public comment deadline: 07/01/19. This THP is about 4 miles SE of the town of Mendocino, CA and Highway 1 at an elevation of 40 to 680 feet.  Mendocino Redwood Company is planning a 100% individual tree selection tractor and cable logging operation on steep and unstable slopes in redwood and Douglas fir forests. The THP area flows into the Albion River which is listed as an impaired watershed for siltation/sedimentation and temperature.  There are 4 landslide terrain sites including; 2 unstable areas near the southern portion of section 13, and 2 unstable areas near the middle portion of section 19.  Mendocino Redwood Company is planning to use 100 feet of an existing seasonal road inside a class II (mid sized) watercourse area to access an existing landing for log skidding operations.  Nine road drainage work sites including rocking, dip construction, ditch cleaning, and culvert repair/replacement.  Red tree voles have been reported within .5 miles of the THP area, coastal tailed frogs were reported 1.5 miles south of the THP area, and southern torrent salamanders were reported 1.4 miles south of the THP area.  There are 3 spotted owl nesting territories within 1.3 miles of the THP area.
