Green Diamond Resource Company to clearcut log SE of Del Norte Redwoods State Park.

THP 1-19-120 DEL (Wilson End THP) Green Diamond Resource Company, 80.5 acres; 65% clearcut, 32% selection, 2% no-harvest, 1% roadside logging. North of Ted’s Ridge (HUM: T15N R1E Sec 27, 28, 33).  Wet weather operations, low erosion hazard, slopes up to 50%, landslide terrain, oversized units, 17 road drainage work sites, herbicides, coho watershed, spotted owl, osprey, marbled murrelet, southern torrent salamander, trees over 29” dbh.  Estimated public comment deadline: 09/28/19. This THP is about 9 miles north of Klamath, CA and a few miles east of Del Norte Redwoods State Park and Highway 101 at an elevation of 1,000 to 1,400 feet.  Green Diamond Resource Company is planning a mostly clearcut tractor and cable logging operation on steep and unstable slopes in redwood, Douglas fir and western hemlock forests.  There are 4 unstable areas in the THP area including; 1 shallow rapid landslide terrain site in unit A, and 3 shallow rapid landslide terrain sites in unit B.  Green Diamond Resource Company is planning to use temporary roads and landings during the winter period. 17 road drainage sites are planned for work including rocking, dip construction, ditch cleaning and culvert repair/replacement. There is a marbled murrelet stand and 2 osprey nests within .25 miles of the W10 Road, and southern torrent salamanders are known to occur in unit A.  Spotted owl nesting territories are located within .5 miles of unit B.
