Sierra Pacific Industries to clearcut log east of Quincy, CA.

THP 2-19-124 PLU (Bluff City THP) Sierra Pacific Industries, 446 acres; 74% clearcut, 15% fuel break, 6% selection, 5% roadside logging. Pine Creek, Squirrel Creek (MD: T24N R11E Sec 7, 8, 17, 18, 19, 20).  Winter operations, moderate erosion hazard, slopes up to 50%, steep roads, landslide terrain, 43 road drainage work sites, herbicides, Sierra Nevada yellow legged frog, Quincy lupine, scattered large trees.  Estimated public comment deadline: 10/04/19. This THP is about 4.5 miles east of Quincy, CA and about a mile NE of Highway 70 at an elevation of 4,360 to 6,280 feet. Sierra Pacific Industries is planning a tractor based logging operation on steep and unstable slopes in Jeffrey pine, ponderosa pine, sugar pine, white fir, incense cedar and Douglas fir forests.  There are 3 landslide terrain sites adjacent to the THP area including; an unstable area below a road near unit 2, and 2 unstable areas just north of unit 6.  Sierra Pacific Industries is planning to use roads and landings during the winter period, and construction is proposed with grades exceeding 15% for several road segments.  43 road drainage sites are planned for work including rocking, dip construction, ditch cleaning and culvert repair/replacement.  In 2004, a Sierra Nevada yellow legged frog was reported .98 miles from the nearest THP unit in section 08. Quincy lupine was reported within and adjacent to the THP area.
