This THP is about 8 miles NE of Pollock Pines, CA and Highway 50 near Union Valley Reservoir at an elevation of 5,040 to 6,160 feet. Sierra Pacific Industries is planning a fuel break and clearcut tractor based logging operation in ponderosa pine, white fir, sugar pine, incense cedar and Douglas fir forests. The THP area is adjacent to the 2014 King Fire burn perimeter, and within 2 miles of the South Fork Campground. SPI is planning to use and construct roads, landings and crossings during the winter period, and use ground based equipment on slopes up to 50% that lead without flattening towards a watercourse area for tractor piling of slash. Seven road drainage sites are planned for work including rocking, dip construction, ditch cleaning and culvert repair/restoration. There are 4 northern goshawk territories within .84 miles to 1.8 miles of the THP area, and an osprey was reported .65 miles from the THP area in section 30. In 1995, a fisher was spotted 2 miles from the nearest THP unit, and fringed myotis and Yuma myotis bats were reported .65 miles from the THP area. Arching sedge was found in units FB18, FB21, FB22, FB23, Sierra bayberry was found in unit FB23, Coleman’s piperia was found in units FB1, FB6, FB15, FB19, FB21 and FB24, and Sierra starwort was found in unit FB27. There are 12 CA spotted owl nesting territories within 2.1 miles of the THP area (.11 to 2.1 miles from THP units).
