This THP is about 16 miles SW of Quincy, CA, 16 miles NE of Oroville, CA and about 8 miles north of Strawberry Valley at an elevation of 3,800 to 5,500 feet. Sierra Pacific Industries is planning a clearcut and fuel break tractor and cable logging operation in white fir, incense cedar, ponderosa pine, sugar pine and Douglas fir forests. Ground based equipment (masticators) are proposed for use in areas designated for cable logging on slopes up to 50%. Foothill yellow legged frogs were reported in sections 2 and 23, Sierra Nevada mountain beaver was reported in sections 7, 14 and 23, and Sierra Nevada yellow legged frogs were reported in section 18. Mingan’s moonwort was found in section 11 and in units 16, 18, 30 and 32, Mildred’s clarkia was found in sections 2, 3 and 31, and in units 12, 14, 15, 16, 19 and 33, and Feltleaf violet was found in unit 25 and in section 13. There are 14 CA spotted owl nesting territories within 1.3 miles of the THP area.
