Sierra Pacific Industries to clearcut log SW of Burney, CA by the Highway 299 summit.

THP 2-19-183 SHA (Vista Flat THP) Sierra Pacific Industries, 350 acres; 87% clearcut, 7% fuel break, 6% commercial thin, misc roadside logging. Terry Lake (MD: T34N R2E Sec 2, 3, 10; T35N R2E Sec 26, 27, 33, 34).  Winter operations, moderate erosion hazard, steep slopes up to 55%, herbicides, CA spotted owl, osprey, 2 sensitive plant species, scattered large trees.  Estimated public comment deadline: 12/18/19. This THP is about 3 miles SW of Burney, CA and just south of the Highway 299 summit at an elevation of 3,300 to 4,900 feet.  Sierra Pacific Industries is planning a mostly clearcut tractor based logging operation in ponderosa pine, sugar pine, white fir, Douglas fir and incense cedar forests.  Ground based equipment is proposed for use on slopes between 50% and 65% with a moderate erosion hazard rating.  Two osprey territories were reported within the THP area including; an osprey nest within.42 miles of the nearest harvest unit in section 2, and an osprey nest within .15 miles of the THP area in section 2. California goodbanner and Castlegar hawthorn were found adjacent to unit 26A.  There is a CA spotted owl nesting territory within 1.3 miles of the THP area.
