Sierra Pacific Industries to clearcut log south of Mineral, CA and Lassen Volcanic National Park.

THP 2-19-200 TEH (Cement THP) Sierra Pacific Industries, 253 acres; 97% clearcut, 7% selection logging. Cement Creek, Round Valley (MD: T27N R3E Sec 12, 13, 14, 23, 24; T27N R4E Sec 5, 6, 7, 8).  Winter operations, high erosion hazard, steep slopes up to 65%, 37 road drainage work sites, oversized units, chinook watershed, mill creek roadless area, herbicides, northern goshawk, foothill yellow legged frog, Mildred’s clarkia, scattered large trees. This THP is about 10 miles south of Mineral, CA and Highway 36, and about 13 miles south of Lassen Volcanic National Park near Highway 32 at an elevation of 5,000 to 5,400 feet.  Sierra Pacific Industries is planning a clearcut tractor and cable logging operation in white fir, Douglas fir, sugar pine, ponderosa pine and incense cedar forests.  Sections 6 and 12 are adjacent to the Mill Creek Roadless Area.  Sierra Pacific Industries is planning to construct roads, landings and crossings during the winter period, and use ground based equipment on slopes between 50% and 65% with a moderate erosion hazard.  37 road drainage sites are planned for work including rocking, dip construction, ditch cleaning and culvert repair/replacement.  A northern goshawk was reported within .25 miles of the nearest THP unit in section 24, and foothill yellow legged frogs were reported within 1 mile (4,800 feet) of the nearest THP unit in section 26. Mildred’s clarkia was reported inside unit 6.  There are 3 CA spotted owl nesting territories within 1.3 miles of the THP area in sections 7, 8, 13, 17, 18, 24, 26, and 27.
