Sierra Pacific Industries to clearcut log by the Mt Shasta Forest Subdivision NE of McCloud, CA.

THP 2-19-207 SIS (Widow 31 THP) Sierra Pacific Industries, 652 acres; 99% clearcut, 1% roadside logging. Pilgrim Creek, Upper Mud Creek, Widow Spring (MD: T40N R1W Sec 6; T40N R2W Sec 1, 2, 5, 10, 26, 27, 33, 34, 35).  Winter operations, moderate erosion hazard, steep slopes up to 60%, 4 road drainage work sites, herbicides, spotted owl, northern goshawk, pacific fisher, 1 sensitive plant species, trees up to 100 years old.  Estimated public comment deadline: 01/19/20. This THP is about 12 miles east of the city of Mt Shasta, and about 4 miles NE of McCloud, CA by the cabin community known as the Mt Shasta Forest Subdivision at an elevation of 3,970 to 5,520 feet.  Sierra Pacific Industries is planning a clearcut tractor based logging operation in white fir, red fir, ponderosa pine, Jeffrey pine, sugar pine and incense cedar forests.  They are planning to use and construct of roads, landings and crossings during the winter period, and use 140 feet of a seasonal road along the outer edge of a class II (mid sized) watercourse area between units 6C and 6G.  Four road drainage sites are planned for work including rocking, dip construction, ditch cleaning and culvert repair/replacement. A pacific fisher was reported within .75 miles from the nearest THP Unit in section 11, and also within 1.7 miles of the nearest THP unit, and a northern goshawk territory is located within 1 mile of the THP area in section 7.  Hot rock daisy was found just south of unit 5A in section 5. There is a spotted owl nesting territory within 1.2 miles of the THP area, and spotted owls were reported in sections 16, 29 and 30.
