This THP is about 4 miles east of Westwood, CA between Coppervale Ski Area and Mountain Meadows Reservoir at an elevation of 5,120 to 6,640 feet.  Sierra Pacific Industries is planning a clearcut and fuel break tractor based logging operation on steep and unstable slopes in ponderosa pine, sugar pine, Douglas fir, incense cedar and white fir forests.  There is a shallow rapid landslide terrain site that has discharged sediment into Duffy Creek in section 5.  Sierra Pacific Industries is planning to use and construct roads and landings during the winter period, and use 2 existing skid trails inside a watercourse area within the aspen release area.  88 road drainage sites are planned for work including rocking, dip construction, ditch cleaning and culvert repair/replacement.  In 2019, the Lassen wolf pack was documented traveling in close proximity to the THP area.  There is potential willow flycatcher and great gray owl foraging habitat in the THP area, and Sandhill cranes are known to forage nearby at Mountain Meadows Reservoir adjacent to the THP area.  In 2004, northern goshawks were reported 1 mile east and 1.5 miles south of the THP area in sections 10 and 28.  In 2017 and 2019, a long toed salamander was found at waterhole #4. Clustered lady’s slipper was found in fuel break unit #F2, blushing wild buckwheat was found in fuel break units #F8 and #F9, and Susanville beardtongue was found in fuel break units #F8 and #F9.  There are 3 CA spotted owl territories within 1.3 miles of the THP area in sections 10 and 22.
