THP 1-20-019 HUM (Ward Road Combo THP) Green Diamond Resource Company, 355.5 acres; 56% commercial thin, 25% clearcut, 13% no-harvest, 6% selection logging. Dry Creek, Lower Cannon Creek (HUM: T5N R2E Sec 12, 13; T5N R3E Sec 6, 7).  Wet weather operations, moderate erosion hazard, steep slopes up to 65%, landslide terrain, 18 road drainage work sites, oversized units, impaired 303.d watershed, coho watershed, spotted owl, bald eagle, foothill yellow legged frog, trees up to 72” dbh.  Estimated public comment deadline: 03/15/20. This THP is about 8 miles SE of Arcata, CA and about 4 miles SE of Blue Lake, CA and Highway 299 at an elevation of 800 to 2,000 feet.  Green Diamond Resource Company is planning a commercial thin and clearcut tractor and cable logging operation on steep and unstable slopes in redwood, Douglas fir, grand fir and Monterrey pine forests. The THP area flows into the Mad River watershed which is listed as an impaired watershed for sediment, temperature and turbidity.  There are 3 landslide terrain sites in the THP area including; 2 landslide shallow rapid terrain sites in unit B, and 1 shallow rapid landslide terrain site in unit F. 18 road drainage sites are planned for work including rocking, dip construction, ditch cleaning and culvert repair/replacement. Bald eagles were reported 2.31 miles west of unit F, and foothill yellow legged frogs are known to occur in unit A, and near unit B.  There are spotted owl nesting territories within units D and E, within .25 miles of units C and F, and within .5 miles of units A and B.
