Green Diamond Resource Company to clearcut log along the Highway 299 coast range summit NE of Arcata, CA.

THP 1-20-005 HUM (Mule Creek THP) Green Diamond Resource Company, 135.5 acres; 85% clearcut, 12% no-harvest, 2% roadside, 1% selection logging. Denman Creek, Long Prairie Creek (HUM: T6N R2E Sec 1, 2; T7N R2E Sec 35, 36).  Wet weather operations, moderate erosion hazard, steep slopes up to 65%, steep roads, 5 road drainage work sites, impaired 303.d watershed, oversized units, herbicides, coho watershed, spotted owl, scattered large trees.  Estimated public comment deadline: 02/24/20. This THP is about 8 miles NE of Arcata, CA near the Highway 299 coast range summit at an elevation of 1,000 to 2,040 feet. Green Diamond Resource Company is planning a clearcut tractor and cable logging operation in Douglas fir and redwood forests. The THP area flows into the Mad River which is listed as an impaired watershed for sediment, turbidity and temperature. Green Diamond Resource Company is planning to use temporary roads and landings during the winter period, and construct a 400 foot segment of steep road on slopes exceeding 65% in unit C. Five road drainage sites are planned for work including rocking, dip construction, ditch cleaning and culvert repair/replacement.  There are spotted owl nesting territories within .5 miles of unit A.
