Green Diamond Resource Company to clearcut log SW of Garberville, CA.

THP 1-20-024 HUM (Gibson Ridge THP) Green Diamond Resource Company, 233 acres; 86% clearcut, 11% no-harvest, 2% selection, 1% roadside logging.  Miller Creek, Upper Sproul Creek (HUM: 04S R02E Sec 25, 35, 36; T05S R02E Sec 2, 3, 11).  Wet weather operations, moderate erosion hazard, steep slopes up to 70%, landslide terrain, 23 road drainage work sites, impaired 303.d watershed, oversized units, herbicides, coho watershed, spotted owl, foothill yellow legged frog, trees up to 48” dbh. This THP is about 8 miles NE of Shelter Cove, and about 6 miles SW of Garberville, CA at an elevation of 960 to 1,640 feet.  Green Diamond Resource Company is planning a mostly clearcut tractor and cable logging operation on steep and unstable slopes in redwood and Douglas fir forests. The THP area flows into the South Fork of the Eel River which is listed as an impaired watershed for sediment and temperature. There are 2 deep seated landslide terrain sites in units I and H, and a swale in unit B. Green Diamond Resource Company is planning to use temporary roads and landings during the winter period, and use a landing inside a class III (intermittent) watercourse area. 23 road drainage sites are planned for work including rocking, dip construction, ditch cleaning and culvert repair/replacement. Foothill yellow legged frogs have been reported 2 miles downstream of unit D, and there are 7 spotted owl nesting territories within .7 miles of the THP area (2/.25 miles).
